What you might be eating at Austin Mission Bravo?

Uzbek cuisine is influenced by the general agriculture as in most nations. There is a good deal of grain agriculture in the nation so breads and noodles are of importance. In discussing the cuisine of Afghanistan, The Village Voice mentions the "noodle-rich cuisine of Uzbekistan."[1] In meats mutton is popular and is a part of various dishes served in the country.
Important or national dishes include soups like shurpa and naryn; main dishes like plov, manty, chuchvara, dimlama, various kebabs and samsa; and finally laghman (also spelled lagman),[2] which can be a soup or main dish.
The most popular beverage in the nation might be green tea, and teahouses (chaikhanas) are of cultual importance. Ayran, a chilled yogurt drink is popular in summer. Alcohol might be less popular than in the West, but wine is comparatively popular for a Muslim nation as Uzbekistan is largely secular. The wines of the nation include Gulyakandoz, Shirin, Liquor Kaberne, and Aleatiko. Samarkand is perhaps the city best known for having a winery.[3]

Austin Mission Alpha: Apocalypse

I just want to say thanks to everyone who attended and a shout out to all the Scenario Teams that participated as well. Thanks to the MAST Guys for living the "Airborne Spirit" keeping up the fight even though the points were being racked up against them (CPT Ed you were awesome!). They fought on to the very end. Props to COBRA Woodsball, the UT Paintball Team, Team Blacklist, and all the other teams that were out their fighting the good paintball fight.
A special shout out to the Krasnovian VDV CPT Bryan for his side taking the day and winning the event. The day was won by excellent use of leadership and communications (for you military folks it was more like supreme C3I.) Careful Bryan, I think the MAST guys are going to be training hard for May 3rd. That day we will be putting on our next scenario Austin Mission Bravo: Bedlam in the Balklands. More to follow on that. Check out this blog and the Xtreme Website for more info coming soon.

Ranger Creed

Ok so all my Ranger Buddies jumped on me about having the Opfor Creed but not the Grand Daddy of all Creeds posted so to keep me from being "snuck up from behind and getting my marker stolen in the night" I have added this to appease the Ranger Gods. I also believe that not only does the Ranger Creed have revelance to any Scenario Player I also think it applies to everyone in real life. So here goes:
Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession. I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor and high "esprit de corps" of my Ranger Regiment.

Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air. I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move further, faster and fight harder than any other soldier.

Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be. One hundred percent and then some.

Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.

Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.

Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission, though I be the lone survivor.

82nd Airborne Info

They call themselves the “All Americans” and refer to the unit as “THE Division” because they are the oldest parachute division in the army. The 504th Motto is “Strike Hold” and is nicknamed the “Red Devils” or “The Devils in Baggy Pants.” They are based out of Fort Bragg, NC.They are part of the rapid deployment force and can be deployed by parachute anywhere in the world in 18 hours.Their primary mission is as a rapid strike force that can be inserted via parachute behind enemy lines to establish a foothold for further Army operations.Everyone in THE Division is Airborne (parachute qualified) from the standard infantryman all the way to the cook and everyone in between.Their parent unit is the XVIII Airborne Corps that consists of the 3rd Infantry Division, the 101st Air Assault Division, 10th Mountain Division, the 82nd Airborne Division, the XVIII Airborne Corps Artillery, 1st Sustainment Command, 18th Aviation Brigade, 20th Engineer Brigade, 525th MI Brigade, 108th ADA Brigade, 16th MP Brigade, 44th Medical Command, and the 1st Battalion of the 509th Infantry (Airborne). They have been involved in every major (and most of the minor) conflicts the US Army has participated in from their inception in WWII to modern day Iraq and Afghanistan.Everything in the division is air droppable (by parachute) from armored vehicles, artillery, and supplies all the way to portable bases. The Division also serves as large scale test units and one of the first units in the Army to receive the newest equipment. They were the first units to field the PASGT Kevlar Helmet, the first unit to wear BDUs and ACUs, the first unit to have the M4, M249 SAW, and the M240B LMG among other firsts! The Division was formed in 1917 but back then it was a regular infantry unit.August 15th 1942 it became the first Airborne (paratrooper) unit in the US Army.Famous soldiers of the unit include SGT Alvin C. York, General James M. Gavin, and Chief Dave Bald Eagle (Sitting Bull’s grandson)They are considered America’s first elite unit. All members of the 82nd are double volunteers (to enlist then to volunteer for paratrooper training).Any member of the 82nd can quit at any time and be sent back to a regular line unit (except in combat)All paratroopers in Airborne units wear maroon berets taken from British tradition each unit has a distinctive metal crest and colored cloth “flash” worn on the beret. The wear of the beret is a matter of great pride by every paratrooper.Every Special Operations Soldier is Airborne qualified (Rangers, Special Forces, PJOC, CCT, SEALS and Marine Recon)

Krasnovian Unit Info

The 106th Guards Tula Airborne Division is a real Russian unit and was a crack Soviet Division during the cold war and after.Airborne forces in Russia are called Vozdushno-Desantnye Voyska or VDV and are separate from the regular army much like the US Marine Corps. The full name of the unit is the 106th Guards Tula Red Banner Twice Order of Kutuzov Airborne Division. The unit was formed in January 1944.The unit earned its elite “Guards” designation during World War II.The 106th served bravely in Afghanistan back in the 1980’sThe unit was instrumental in supporting the change to democracy back in 1991 supporting President Boris Yeltsin and not the Soviet Coup leaders. They are very patriotic and are known for their songs and fierce elitism.Every member of the VDV is extensively trained in hand to hand combat even more so than the US Rangers, Marines or Special Forces. They wear blue berets and the famous Telnyashka, a blue and white striped undershirt. Krasnovia is the fictitious country created to be the enemy for US units at the National Training Center (NTC) in Ft. Erwin, CA. They have expanded to the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) in Ft. Polk, LAKrasnovians are considered OPFOR (opposing forces) and are played by the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment at NTC.Currently the 1st of the 509th Airborne Infantry play the role of VDV Krasnovians when called for but their primary mission is to be Acadian (another fictitious country) guerrillas and terrorists at the JRTC. They specialize in small unit tactics and are the premier OPFOR for Special Forces, Rangers, and low intensity conflict.Krasnovia is patterned after Warsaw Pact forces and are a throwback to the cold war. They have their own specialized uniforms and equipment many of which are still available at various surplus stores and on E-bay!

OPFOR Creed

This is the creed for the 11th Armored Cav Regiment, the professional OPFOR of the US Army. I thought that everyone should have a read of this as it contains many values for Scenario Players. Read on!
OPFOR CREED
No soldier is more professional than I. I am an Opposing Force Soldier of the 2nd Brigade Tactical Group, 1st Brigade Tactical Group, or the 11th Division Tactical Group - Trainers of the United States Army.As an Opposing Force Soldier, I will remain constantly aware of the Opposing Force's special and primary responsibility for safety and will never commit an unsafe act.I will conduct tactical operations faithfully in accordance with Krasnovian doctrine, never cheating or condoning cheating by the fellow Opposing Force Soldiers.I will set the example for tactical excellence, discipline, military courtesy, and esprit de corps and never engage in gamesmanship to gain the advantage.I will strive to safeguard the Opposing Force's hard-earned reputation for tactical excellence and professionalism, deterring the negative aspirations of sniveling, complaining, or arguing.I pledge to fight to the limit of my endurance in every mission to guarantee the success of the Opposing Force. I will always reflect a special pride in performing the unique mission of training the United States Army for war as part of the National Training Center team. I will never forget my responsibility to be a Soldier of integrity, who adheres to the Rules of Engagement and maintains his equipment to the best of his ability, always remaining fit to fight, trained to win, and combat ready. Finally, I will conduct myself at all times as a proud member of the United States Army's best trained mechanized fighting force. As such, I will consistently demonstrate my professionalism, esprit de corps, and motivation by saluting, with pride, my opponents at every opportunity. I will never boast about my accomplishments or make derogatory comments about the rotational units undergoing training at the National Training Center.I will not forget, nor will I allow my comrades to forget, that we are professional Opposing Force Soldiers of the 2nd Brigade Tactical Group and 1st Brigade Tactical Group and the 11th Division Tactical Group - trainers of the United States Army."ALLONS, For Country, Ironhorse, Eaglehorse, Packhorse, Sir!"

Krasnovia? I've never heard of that country!

During the Cold War, the US military needed a threat-based sparring partner for its soldiers. A group of professional “opposing forces” (aka OPFOR) were created for use in wargames and training exercises. These units were tasked with being experienced bad guys at the Army’s National Training Center (NTC) at Fort Irwin, CA. It was there that the Krasnovians were born with the creation of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Krasnovia, a fictional country hostile toward westerners. Krasnovia is derived from the Russian word for "red" and "beautiful".Krasnovian military doctrine was taken straight from Warsaw Pact manuals. There were three main reasons for using the Soviet model: the USSR was our most potent opponent, they had the most complete and different doctrine from that of America, and they were exporting their doctrine. Since 1983, three Army Field Manuals dealing with the tactical Soviet Army (FM 100-2-1, FM 100-2-2 and FM 100-2-3) have been written and used for training. These manuals have served as the primary documents for all OPFOR threat training. The School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) studied Soviet operational art and its graduates incorporated these concepts into the force. AirLand Battle Doctrine (ALB) and AirLand Battle Future (ALBF) adapted much from Soviet operational thought as they prepared the students to combat a Soviet threat both operationally and tactically. OPFOR’s job was complicated further since many groups could buy equipment to counter or affect America's digitized Army. So, the OPFOR would constantly innovate and evolve to avoid being a predictable force. For example, the OPFOR might employ nontraditional communications such as cell phones and civilian radios - tactics befitting a technologically disadvantaged country like Krasnovia. As of 1997, today's OPFOR no longer fights scenarios with template Soviet maneuvers. Instead, the field manuals evolved into a capabilities-based approach to mirror current world situations. The SAMS directors shepherd OPFOR doctrine standardization using the former Soviet doctrine as a springboard. Modern adversaries are smarter than ever and therefore the team tries to reflect this with a free-thinking, adaptive OPFOR. For example, OPFOR action during training at the NTC is very close to opposition the Army saw in Iraq in 2003. This correlation held up in many areas, including: how troops flow into the theater of Krasnovia, how contractors are dealt with, how information nodes are established (to build and track combat power), and even details like how a car bomb would be used in Dust Bowl areas. OPFOR training at the NTC is as close a model to what happened in Iraq as exists.

Just where is Uzbekistan and Krasnovia?

Uzbekistan, officially the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzbek: O‘zbekiston Respublikasi; Cyrillic: Ўзбекистон Республикаси; Russian: Республика Узбекистан), is a doubly landlocked country in Central Asia, formerly part of the Soviet Union. It shares borders with Krasnovia to the west and to the north, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to the east, and Afghanistan and Turkmenistan to the south.

The Scenario Plot

Welcome to an alternative future. In this alternative timeline the fictitious country of Krasnovia (what would be Kazakhstan, Russia) did not embrace democracy in 1991 when the Soviet Union fragmented. The Krasnovians stuck to the old Soviet doctrine and continued to support the Communist ideals. More Stalin than Lenin or Marx they continued to rule their country with an iron fist. Luckily the people of the region were blessed with abundant natural resources such as oil, natural gas, minerals and most importantly Uranium. This kept the oppressive government at bay. The people flourished and the communist state began to build up its military forces. Due to the nature of their political ideology they were unable to gain information and technology that would allow them to use their uranium to become a nuclear power. After many years of isolationism Krasnovia has now entered the world stage. Trading uranium, oil and gas to African nations, China, Cambodia, Cuba, and North Korea they have become rich and have decided to flex their military might to expand Communism to the south starting with Uzbekistan. They hope to take over that country quickly and use the current situation in Afghanistan and Iraq to keep the major powers out of their affairs, similar to Germany invading Poland in 1939. From there they hope to push towards Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. They were mistaken. As soon as the first tanks rolled across the border and the paratroopers of the VDV dropped into Uzbekistan the US alerted and deployed their rapid deployment forces and called the 82nd Airborne Division into action. Quickly gaining UN approval, as well as the support from NATO, the “All American” paratroopers of dropped right on top of the advancing Krasnovians. The Krasnovians were surprised and unable to react quickly. This resulted in dramatic halt of their advance. The fierceness of the Americans held them just to the North of the city of Tashkent. The Krasnovians had advanced beyond their supply lines and have lost their momentum. The lines have stabilized at what is now called Phase Line Green. The US GoalsPush the Krasnovians North, if possible push them back to Krasnovia.Hold the city of Tashkent. Do not allow the Krasnovians beyond that point.Keep casualties to a minimum. We have few replacements.Prevent unnecessary civilian casualties. The Krasnovian GoalsDo not allow the Americans to advance.Consolidate your forces and prepare for armor and mechanized infantry reinforcements.Use whatever means necessary to further “The Revolution”.We cannot let the workers of Krasnovia down.
